Metered customers (household)
If you have a water meter, your bills are based upon the amount of water that you use (plus a standing charge). Your bill consists of two main elements - how much water you have used in your home and how much wastewater we have taken away to clean and return safely to rivers and seas. In simple terms, your charges are as follows:
For water
- A charge for the amount of water you have used (in cubic metres, 1 cubic metre = 1000 litres of water)
- A standing charge which covers the cost of reading and maintaining your meter, sending bills and dealing with enquiries
For wastewater
- A charge for collecting and disposing of your wastewater based upon the amount of water you have used (in cubic metres)
- Part of the standing charge as detailed in the water section above
- A fixed charge for dealing with surface water and highway drainage.
We charge for wastewater services (sewerage services) on the basis that most of the water we supply to your home enters the sewer for us to transport to our treatment works to clean and return safely to the environment.
