Keeping your taps flowing and toilets flushing in Cumbria
We’ve got a lot to thank the Lake District for, from its beautiful landscape and the vast lakes, for many of us our morning cuppa has started its journey from here.
Take a peak at some of the projects being carried out in your area:
• At Keswick we're spending £23m to improve water quality in Bassenthwaite Lake and prevent sewer flooding in Elliot Park. The project, which will be completed in April 2013. It also includes improvements to the local wastewater treatment works and a new sewer network across the town.
• At Windermere we're investing £5m in a new public sewer and pipeline across The Glebe to reduce the risk of sewer flooding and enhance water quality at Parsonage Bay.
Similarly we're spending £6.7m at Briggle Beck to improve water quality in the River Eden and at Grange and Arnside we're spending £8m building new underground storm tanks and pumping stations to improve water quality in the Kent Channel Estuary and for bathing waters in Morecambe Bay.
