Climate change and energy
Climate change affects every aspect of our operations.
We actively seek to mitigate the potential adverse impacts of climate change on our operations and we recognise and seek to reduce the impact of our operations on the climate.
In 2010 we revised our carbon strategy to take account of changes to UK legislation and best practice in the areas of carbon managment. Following our origional carbon management strategy in 2007 we have taken steps to increase the amount of renewable energy we generate, reduce our energy consumption, integrate carbon emissions considerations in our investment planning and research and development activities.
We report our carbon footprint annually. From 2010 we will be participating in the new Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme which will help to drive further improvements.
We have incorporated climate change adaptation considerations into our water resources management planning and investment planning, particularly around sewer flooding.
We have been an active advocate of responding to the climate change challenge, through our involvement in the Prince's May Day Network and wider initiatives such as promoting water efficiency and the benefits this has for reducing customer's carbon footprints..
