We have worked on almost every continent and are currently providing and improving water and wastewater services in the UK, Australia, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe and the Philippines.
We have a number of industry leading contracts in our portfolio. Our success has included several utility industry firsts and, as a result, we are the largest operator of water and wastewater assets in the UK serving approximately one in four people.
We own and operate the water and wastewater network and operate the electricity network in the north west of England where we are delivering a US$7 billion capital investment programme for 2005-2010. We also operate around 60% of the outsourced UK utility market.
In Wales, where we operate a large proportion of the water and wastewater assets, we helped the asset owner Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to move from seventh to joint first place in Ofwat's performance league table and in the process won a new 15-year contract to continue providing these services.
We are also helping to deliver US$multi-million capital programmes for both Scottish Water and Southern Water in addition to operating the gas network serving 2.5 million people in the north of England and providing multi-utility metering and connections services.
Outside of the UK we currently have operations in Australia, the Philippines, Poland, Estonia, Bulgaria and India. In Manila, through our major water distribution leakage programme, we have reduced leakage from 63% to 25%. Through our wholly owned subsidiary in Australia, we have successfully operated the first public private partnership contract in the Australian water industry in Victoria.
In Estonia we have a 15 year contract to operate and maintain the water and wastewater operations for the country's capital, Tallinn, and in Bulgaria we are in a 25 year concession to operate and maintain the water and wastewater assets for the capital Sofia.
